Why are some digital dissertations or RADAR content locked and unavailable for viewing?

Answer

Some material in RADAR will display as “secured”, meaning it is restricted from public view and cannot be downloaded. This can be for a variety of reasons. It may contain lots of third-party copyrighted material, preventing us from making it available online.

Theses may also be subject to an embargo period. Upon submission of their thesis, authors can request an embargo of up to 3 years, normally if they plan to rework their thesis into a book, journal article or conference paper. We are prohibted from providing access during this period.

Please contact radar@gsa.ac.uk to enquire about access to particular resources on RADAR.
