Why is access to some PhD theses embargoed?

Answer

When PhD candidates submit their thesis, they can request an embargo of up to 3 years. This is usually when the author is planning to produce a book, journal article or conference proceeding based on their thesis.

During this period we are prohibited from providing access to other students. These items will display in the Library Catalogue as 'In Embargo' until embargo period has passed. Access will also be locked to any digital versions hosted on RADAR, the GSA institutional repository.

Some authors will allow access on a case-by-case basis. Please contact us at library@gsa.ac.uk if you would like us to attempt to contact the author. We cannot guarantee the author will respond, or that they will allow access.
