My students need to see examples of past dissertations in their programme. Can I scan the dissertations of former students and make these available on Canvas?

Answer

The Library has a programme of work in place to ingest born-digital dissertations and make them available to students under appropriate copyright controls and takedown policies. We are also retrospectively digitising analogue dissertations so that they are available digitally in the same way.

You can browse all the available digital dissertations by programme here

If there is a specific dissertation you wish your students to access, and it isn't yet available through the Library digitally, you can request digitisation by emailing d.chappell@gsa.ac.uk. You must not upload a dissertation yourself to Canvas or any other platform. This is because it must undergo a series of checks and procedures, including:

  • Data protection audit
  • Copyright checks
  • Cover sheet appending with details of Takedown Policy
  • Accessibility processing
