I have published my own work in a resource to which GSA does not currently subscribe. Can I share my copy of the published work or my author’s manuscript with my students?

Answer

Although it may sound surprising, your ability to share your own published work with others will depend on the contract you have signed with the publisher. Traditionally, most academic publishers have placed restrictions on what you can do with your own work once it is published by them. In recent years however, many publishers (at the behest of funding councils) have created Open Access routes that allow you to continue to publish with them whilst also sharing your work (either in its published form, or your author’s manuscript) with others.

If you are unsure what your particular publisher allows, you should email them directly. If they permit sharing, you should upload your published work to the GSA institutional repository RADAR and share this link with your students. You can request help with this at radar@gsa.ac.uk

Where your publishing agreement does not allow you to share your published output, it may be possible for Library Services to purchase a copy in order to make it available to your students. Just get in touch at resourcelist@gsa.ac.uk and we will see what is possible.

If you have self-published material, either alone or as part of a group, you retain all copyright in your work and can do with it what you please.
