The links I make in Canvas keep breaking, how can I make sure that this doesn't happen?

Sometimes when I add links to Canvas one of my students will tell me that they are not longer working or go somewhere different.

Answer

We always recommend that you provide your resources to students through your Keylinks resource list, but if you need to link something elsewhere in Canvas we recommend that you use permalinks wherever possible. This means that the links won’t break later down the line. You should try and avoid copying the URL from the top box as these are often unique to your session and will break later.

Permalinks are usually signified by a chain symbol, and you can find these in the library catalogue and on journal and ebook provider websites

For more information and examples of where you can find permalinks for the resources that GSA creates and subscribes, see our Creating Stable Links in Canvas instructions. If you still aren't sure why your links aren't working get in touch with us at resourcelist@gsa.ac.uk
